Performing regular water changes is crucial to maintain a healthy and thriving aquarium. To start, prepare the new water by adding a dechlorinator and ensuring it is at the same temperature as the tank water. Next, turn off any equipment and remove about 10-20% of the old water, being careful not to disturb the substrate or any decor. Using a siphon or gravel vacuum, clean the substrate and remove any debris. Then, slowly add the new water to the tank, ensuring it is properly mixed. Finally, turn the equipment back on and test the water parameters to ensure they are within acceptable ranges. Repeat this process at least once a month or more frequently for heavily stocked tanks.
