The L052 Pleco, also known as the Butterfly Pleco or L052 Ancistrus, is a species of freshwater catfish native to the Amazon River basin in South America.
 
Appearance: The L052 Pleco is known for its striking appearance, characterized by a unique pattern of black and white stripes or spots along its body and fins. Its body shape is typical of the Ancistrus genus, with a flattened abdomen and a broad, flattened head. It has a sucker mouth, which it uses to attach itself to surfaces.
Size: While the size of L052 Plecos can vary depending on factors such as diet and tank conditions, they typically reach a maximum size of around 4 to 5 inches (10 to 13 centimeters) in length when fully grown. This makes them relatively small compared to some other species of Plecos.
Behavior: L052 Plecos are generally peaceful and can coexist with a variety of other fish species in a community aquarium. They are nocturnal by nature, preferring to be more active during the night, and will spend much of their time scavenging for food along the bottom of the tank.
Diet: Like other members of the Ancistrus genus, L052 Plecos are omnivorous and primarily herbivorous. In the wild, they feed on algae, plant matter, and small invertebrates. In captivity, they can be fed a diet consisting of high-quality sinking pellets or tablets, blanched vegetables such as zucchini or cucumber, and occasional protein-rich foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp.
Tank Requirements: L052 Plecos require a well-maintained aquarium with plenty of hiding spots and surfaces to graze on. They appreciate driftwood and other decorations where they can retreat during the day. The aquarium should have a sandy or fine-gravel substrate to prevent damage to their delicate underbellies.
Water Parameters: These Plecos prefer warm, slightly acidic to neutral water conditions similar to their natural habitat in the Amazon basin. Ideal water temperature ranges from 75°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C), with a pH level between 6.5 to 7.5. Regular water changes are essential to maintain water quality.
Compatibility: L052 Plecos are generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of tank mates, including small to medium-sized community fish that are not aggressive or prone to fin-nipping. However, they may become territorial towards other Plecos or bottom-dwelling species if space is limited.
